Position: Supine
Time: 5-30 min (very short)

Post-op Pain: Minimal (1-3)
Maintenance Paralytic: No

Secure your airway early. Surgeon will be working at the head of the bed, so anticipate having little freedom to move/manipulate the head and airway throughout the case.

The surgeon will be working with the cautery close to the head of the bed. Patient will be draped, so be very careful to have oxygen as low as possible to avoid a fire.

If utilizing a face mask, positioning it upside-down will keep the tubing from potentially running across the surgical site.

C-arm will be utilized to check placement. Have lead in the room.

Patients needing a mediport will likely be immunocompromised. Be mindful of cleaning hubs etc when accessing IV ports

The mediport is used for quick access for patients that need infusions regularly (ie. cancer patients)
